Meeting with Marina Katcharava

On April 18, Doctor of Psychology Marina Katcharava visited Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. The visit was planned within the framework of the project Traditional Meetings. The theme of the public lecture she delivered was “Personal Growth and Emotional Intelligence”.

Doctor M. Katcharava spoke about the importance of emotional intelligence and its stages in the process of the development of personality. She spoke about the relations between understanding and emotionality, as well - emotionality of understanding and understanding of emotionality, about the fundamental emotions and about the existing difference between feelings and emotions.

She mentioned that for personal development, besides the intellectual quotient (IQ), it is necessary to have emotional intelligence (EQ), which affects our behavior, decisions and achievements. The speaker drew the audience’s attention to the main features and foundations of emotional intelligence. She noted that the process of self-determination of a person is characterized by the cognizance of who he is and what kind of person he is, what he feels, what he likes and what makes him angry... She mentioned that after self-awareness, the most important stage is that of naming of one’s emotions by the person, and afterwards, the stage of their control and management by himself.

Doctor M. Katcharava noted that emotional intelligence helps a person to develop social skills, teaches to recognize other people’s emotions, control one’s own impulses and emotions, manage stress in a situation of conflict and empathy, etc.

The Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary, Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, professors and students attended the meeting. The listeners found the lecture extremely interesting. The conversation held at the end proceeded in a question-and-answer mode. Interesting questions were asked which the speaker answered comprehensively.
