The TTAS Newspaper

The Newspaper of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary

The newspaper of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary – Clite Davitisi (The Key of David) – was founded in 2003 with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, through the initiative and efforts of the then Vice-Rector of the Theological Academy and Seminary, Protosyngellos Giorgi Zviadadze.

The newspaper was given the title Clite Davitisi by the then Rector of the Theological Academy and Seminary, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II. Accordingly, each issue opens with a scriptural preamble selected by the Patriarch, defining the meaning of the newspaper’s title:

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘These things says He who is holy and true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens.’” (Revelation 3:7)

The newspaper is dedicated to impartially reflecting the educational, spiritual, and scholarly life of the country’s foremost theological institution. It regularly provides readers with information about the creative work, daily life, and activities of both students and instructors.

The newspaper is intended for the professors, instructors, and students of the Theological Academy and Seminary; at the same time, it is also accessible to all readers interested in these subjects. It is noteworthy that one of the newspaper’s sections – Khma Eridan (Voice from the People) – has published articles by nearly 200 authors dedicated to the life and ministry of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. These articles, published under the title The Cross-Bearer of the Georgian Nation, have already been issued in four separate book editions.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the editorial team did not cease its work, and the newspaper continued to be delivered to the readers in electronic format.
