Akathist Offered at Sioni Cathedral

On the 23rd of May, the Church commemorates the Apostle Saint Simeon the Canaanite. The same date is blessed by His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Tskhum-Apkhazeti as a Festive Day of Apkhazeti - “Apkhazetoba”.
In this connection, today the Professor of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary, Archpriest Maxim Chanturia and the clergy of the staff of this educational institution offered an Akathist to the Mother of God at Sioni Cathedral.
The aforementioned Church service was attended by the representatives of the Government of Apkhazeti and the professors, teachers and students of the Academy and Seminary.  On the completion of the service, Father Maxim addressed the parish with his congratulation. While speaking about its significance, he mentioned that Apkhazeti is an unhealed wound for every Georgian and that each of us has a strong belief that the separation of this region from the integral Georgia is temporary. By God’s will, there will come the time when our Motherland, although split now, will be unified again. Father Maxim blessed the attending people, wished them spiritual steadfastness, confidence in the righteousness of our common cause, elevated national awareness and a future of living in an integral state.
