Weekly Seminar

On April 22 of this year, a weekly educational seminar was held at the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary, organized by the Department of Biblical Studies. At the seminar, a presentation was delivered by the first-year seminary student Ilia Melua. The topic of his presentation was: The Birth of Jesus Christ — Key Interpretations of Luke 2:1–20 and Matthew 2:1–12.

The speaker analyzed the Nativity narratives in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, focusing on the thematic and symbolic significance of each passage. It is noteworthy that Ilia Melua approached the topic not only on the basis of biblical texts and their exegesis, but also through the analysis and comparative study of homiletic and dogmatic works translated into Georgian.

After the seminar, a discussion was held. The participants raised both theological and textual questions, which Ilia Melua answered thoroughly and convincingly.

The presentation was positively evaluated by the head of the Department of Biblical Studies, Archpriest Giorgi Gugushvili, and Doctor of Philology Ketevan Gvazava. In their assessment, the student demonstrated both a solid knowledge of the sources and strong analytical and interpretative skills.

The seminar was distinguished by a high academic level and once again confirmed that such meetings are particularly important for students, both for the deepening of theological knowledge and for the development of skills in reasoning, analysis, and evaluation.
