A Conference Dedicated to the Commemoration of the Thirteen Holy Assyrian Fathers Held in Martqhopi

On May 20, 2025, under the organization of the Dean of the Faculty of Theological Seminary, Priest Giorgi Vashalomidze, a scientific conference dedicated to the Commemoration Day of the Thirteen Holy Assyrian Fathers was held at the Monastery of All Saints in Martqhopi. Before the beginning of the conference, the students and teachers of the seminary visited the Monastery of All Saints and the Monastery of the God-Head. Priest Giorgi Vashalomidze offered Moleben at the grave of Saint Anton of Martqhopi, and the Choir of the Theological Seminary directed by Lasha Zaalishvili performed hymns in the process of prayer.

The participants of the conference were hosted by the Abbot of the All Saints Martqhopi Monastery, Archimandrite Elisha Abramishvili. At 2 o'clock, in the conference hall of the monastery, Priest Giorgi Vashalomidze solemnly opened the scientific conference dedicated to the Holy Assyrian Fathers. The Choir of the Seminary performed hymns. Their performance added a special emotional charge to the event. Father Elisha blessed the participants of the conference, students and audience, and wished them success.

The following teachers from Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary presented their talks at the conference:

1. Doctor of Philology Ketevan Mamasakhlisi - The Legacy of the Assyrian Fathers;

2. Doctor of Theology Irakli Orzhonia - Information About the Location of Hades Preserved in Biblical and Patristic Sources;

3. Master of Theology Giorgi Todua - Spiritual Interpretations of One of the Testimonies from the Old Testament – “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated” (Mal. 1.2/Rom. 9.13);

4. Master of Theology Rezo Mujirishvili – The Teachings on the Law and Its Essence in the Holy Scripture

5. Master of Theology, Priest Giorgi Vashalomidze - Iconographies of the “Last Supper” and the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and Their Theological and Iconographical Aspects;

An interesting discussion took place after the speeches had been delivered. In addition, the students took part in the discussion and expressed significant opinions. After the conference, the guests were invited to dinner where chanting and folk singing filled the air until dusk.
