Students’ Visit to the Golden Fund

Students’ Visit to the Golden Fund
On February 16, 2024, the students of the Theological Seminary visited the Golden Fund of the State Museum of Fine Arts of Shalva Amiranashvili. The event was led by the Head of the Department of Georgian History of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Theology, Professor Sergo Vardosanidze.  With great interest did the students view the unique Georgian artifects of gold and partition enamel of the 8th-19th centuries, coins of medieval centuries, the Gold Cross of Queen Tamar, an ancient icon of the Saviour, unique exhibits of monumental painting and iconography, mosaic, sculpture and others preserved in the Golden Fund.

In addition, Mr. Sergo Vardosanidze told the students the story of the building of the museum itself. He noted that it was built by the Swiss architect Giuseppe Bernardazzi. The construction was commissioned by Iakob Zubalashvili. The building is a rare example of late classicism. It was given the status of a monument of cultural heritage in 2007.

Such educational events are an integral part of the process of teaching at Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary.
