Presentation of a Jubilee Edition, Dedicated to Georgia’s Conversion to Christianity and the 1700th Anniversary of the First Ecumenical Church Council of Nicaea

On December 16, a presentation of the book “Theological Mosaic,” published by the Patriarchate of Georgia, was held at the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. The volume is an anthology of theological works issued in commemoration of the 1700th anniversary of the Christianization of Georgia and the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. The compiler and editor of the jubilee collection is Archpriest Teimuraz Tatarishvili, Doctor of History and a lecturer at the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. He also provided the collection with annotations and reference notes on the authors and works presented in the book.

“Theological Mosaic” is a collection of engaging articles and scholarly works, arranged thematically. The introductory section includes writings on knowledge and faith, spiritual values, the essence of Christianity, as well as religion and philosophy. A particularly extensive body of material is presented in the section on Biblical studies. The bibliology section provides information on the structure of the Holy Scriptures, their translations, manuscripts, and apocryphal texts.

The presented jubilee edition brings together articles by professors from Harvard, Cambridge, and other leading universities on the redactions of the Old Testament and its earliest translations, as well as on manuscripts discovered in the Dead Sea region.

The collection features the seminal work by Tsiala Kurtsikidze on the Georgian translations and redactions of the Bible; Edisher Chelidze’s “The Bible and Christianity” (methods of interpretation); R. Siradze’s “The Bible and Georgian Literature,” and many other studies. The volume also includes extensive sections devoted to Church History, Dogmatic Theology, Patrology, and Liturgics. The anthropology section presents articles addressing the nature of the human being, the body, soul, and spirit, as well as the themes of image and likeness, among others.

A separate section of the book is devoted to articles on Christian art. “This anthology is a handbook for the Orthodox Christian. One may say that ‘Theological Mosaic”’is an encyclopedic multi-volume work of theology,” Father Teimuraz stated.

The book also includes an extensive study by Father Teimuraz Tatarishvili himself, “The Bible and World Literature,” as well as works by N. Berdyaev, V. Lossky, D. Amusin, A. Men, Z. Kiknadze, D. Tumanishvili, and others.

The presentation of the book was attended by students and faculty members of the institution.
