The Rector, Academic Council, professors, and students of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary respectfully and warmly congratulate the distinguished scholar and public figure, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Theology, Professor Sergo Vardosanidze, on his 70th birthday!
Mr. Sergo has been active at the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary since its founding, and for 27 years he has chaired the Department of Georgian History at this institution. He has dedicated his long and fruitful academic career to the study of the history of the Church of Georgia, and, as an educator, he has nurtured generations imbued with national spirit. Even during the era of atheist rule, he managed to maintain closeness to the Church and would take his students on visits to churches and monasteries across various regions of Georgia. During these excursions, while reviewing the historical monuments, he would subtly speak to them about the depths of Christian teaching. Since the founding of our institution, Mr. Sergo has closely followed the progress of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary and, not infrequently, has even been a driving force behind it.
For many years, Mr. Sergo successfully led the St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia. In recognition of his tireless efforts in the service of the Church, by the decree of His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Mr. Sergo Vardosanidze was awarded the highest honor of the Church of Georgia - the Golden Order of St. George.
We wish Mr. Sergo health, spiritual vigor, and many more years of life for the well-being of our Church and nation!
